Renovation of ancient temple

The renovation work at Sri Kamakshi Ambal Samedha Sri Anigopanathar temple, Kaniyanur village, near Thimiri town in Thiruvannamalai district, is under way. This temple which is believed to have been built by King Kulothunga Cholan about 1000 years ago, is unique in ways more than one. The temple Sivachariyar describes the significance – the lingam is in square form and the Goddess is believed to reside on the Avudai platform. The sthala vruksham is Vilvam. tree. The renovation is expected to be wrapped up in a couple of months and the kumbabishekam will be held on August 29, between 9.30 and 10.30 a.m.
The consecration will be done for the principal deities Vinayakar, Murugar, Navagraha shrines and the parivaramurthis. The estimated cost for one kaala puja will be around Rs. 25,000. Contributions are welcome.

Dear devotees,

The Cauvery delta has been noted not just for its soil fertility but also the fertility of human mind to breed religious thoughts and piety. No wonder it has been home to so many temples – huge and magnificent. There are also smaller temples in villages which are in need of attention for regular worship to commence. One of them is the temple of SHREE CHIDAMBARESWARASWAMI in Vadapakka Agraharam village close to Valangaiman town (Thiruvarur district). This temple is surrounded by Karuvalarsery Sri. Agastheeswarar, Tippirajapuram village, Naachiyaarkoil and Marudanallur Sadguruswamigal madam is about 2 km from here.
This ancient sivalayaa is estimated to be about 900 years old - built during chola king Kulothunga's reign, needs complete renovation. The mulasthana lingam, alone still left there in its original place making all the other deities to be finding their way out from the village.

This writer visited the village along with Sri Thiruvadikudil Swamigal of Kumbakonam on 3rd Mar. 2010 and was shocked to see this temple in ruins. Now it has been decided with the divine blessings of Sri Siva to immediately to renovate the temple as per aagamas mainly installing the main lingam, a small sizeAmbaal Vinayagar and Murugar also to find a place in addition to Sri Nandiswarar.
We are making all efforts ,also to continue the nithya puja at the temple after kumbaabishegam.

Considering the importance of shiva aalaya kaingarya being most important in one's life equivalent to performinmg an aswamedhayaagam, all devotees are requested to contribute what is possible and to further the cause of the temple renovation.

The temple of Sri Kamalambikai Samedha Sri Brahmapureeswarar at Maniyamadoor, in Kattu Mannargudi Taluk, Cuddalore District – 608 303, built by King Kulothunga Chola I in 1119 A.D. and later expanded by King Vikrama Chola, is in a state of collapse. It has remained in a dilapidated state for several decades now. Inscriptions of the Chola period found in this temple have been recorded and preserved by the Archaeological Survey of India.
Besides the main deities, the temple houses separate shrines for Agatheeswarar and his consort Akhilandeswari, Vinayaka, Valli-Devasena Samedha Subramaniar, Dakshinamurthy, Lingothbavar, Brahma, Durga and Chandikeswarar.
The Maniyam Adoor Ohm Namasivaya Trust and the villagers have initiated steps to restore the temple to its original glory.
As a first step the temple has been cleared of bushes and weeds, the idols have been shifted to a shed in the vicinity, and the shrines of Lord Vinayaka and Muruga are nearing completion. A further amount of Rs.15 lakhs is required to complete the Moolavar, Naalvar, Chandikeswarar and Ambal Sannidhis, thirumaligai pithy, madapalli and compound wall. Hence contributions are sought.

A padayatra by Shiva bhakthas (devotees of Lord Shiva) is slated for 30 November.

The devotees have been taking such a yatra for over eight years now. It is believed that the padayathra helps the seeker go near the shrine and take delight in worshipping Lord Shiva within their reach.

More than 150 people are made to wear a mala on the first Friday of Karthikai (Tamil months of November-December) to undertake the yatra on the 11th day from 30 November.

Puranas (scriptures) say that these rishis (mendicants) were directly from Kailash and their intention of locating the worship, thavam (penance) are to achieve the goal by doing the same in the forests.

The holy books say that a time six maharishis lived in six forests in Arcot that came to be known as Shadaranyams. The interesting part of these rishis is that they had their own Shiva temples built for their daily poojas and they were huge with Rajagopurams (towers).

The six temples are Vasishteswarar Balakujambal at Veppur Village, Valmikeswarar Vadivudaiammai at Melvisharam, Sri Gowthameswar Kirupambikai at Karai Gramam (Village), Agastheswarar Akilandeswari at Vannivedu Gramam, Aththiswarar Thiripurasundari at Kudimallur Gramam and Barthwaseeswarar Dharmasamwardhini at Puduppadi Gramam.

The mega event has been arranged in such a way that participants can reach Arcot on the night of 15 November and go to Veppur village. The yatra commences at 6 am and concludes at 6 pm.

Sri Kailasanathar temple at Koonancheri, a village in Thanjavur district, is getting ready for consecration on 6 September.According to the legend, a saint named Thanavar was living in this locality centuries ago. He prayed for a child to Lord Shiva who responded with a message to the saint that he should take up teaching of Vedas to children.

He obeyed the divine order and soon Thanavar’s wife became pregnant. Once when he was uttering a Vedic mantra, a student began to sleep for which the saint reprimanded him.The infant from the womb of his wife advised the saint not to scold the boy who out of tiredness slept without his knowledge.Thanavar got angry and cursed the foetus that it would be born with eight dimensions (ashtavakran).Since he learnt Vedas in the womb stage, the boy’s deformity was rectified after he undertook a Shiva pooja by installing eight lingams.
